Lloydminster joined communities across Saskatchewan in celebrating Education Week from Nov. 24 to 30.
This year’s theme, Learning is a Journey, highlights the collective effort of students, educators, and support staff in shaping education’s future.
As part of the week, Nov. 25 was proclaimed Bus Driver Appreciation Day in Saskatchewan. Additionally, Lloydminster schools honoured their bus drivers, recognizing their vital role in ensuring students can access learning safely and consistently.
“Our bus drivers navigate icy streets, snowy roads, and early mornings to get students to and from school safely,” said Charlene Hill, communications manager for the Lloydminster Public School Division (LPSD). She emphasized their commitment to students’ health and safety is invaluable.
LPSD schools celebrated bus drivers with heartfelt thanks and small tokens of appreciation. Meanwhile, this gesture acknowledged their dedication and daily contributions to the education system.
Saskatchewan Education Minister Everett Hindley praised all education professionals for their commitment to students during Education Week.
“Education inspires a passion to learn, encourages creativity, teaches teamwork and helps build the next generation of leaders and innovators,” said Hindley “Thank you to our dedicated education professionals for providing our students with the skills, knowledge and opportunities they need to experience the best journey of learning and growth.”
Approximately 1,300 school bus drivers in Saskatchewan transport more than 70,000 students daily. These drivers ensure students have consistent access to learning opportunities, regardless of weather or distance.
Bus Driver Appreciation Day reminds us of these professionals’ essential role in supporting student success. Additionally, their efforts form the foundation of the broader educational journey celebrated throughout the week.
With Education Week’s theme of lifelong learning serving as a reminder, Lloydminster is grateful to those who make this journey possible daily, including its bus drivers.
