Lloyd RCMP pursuit leads to three charged

Three people were arrested after a stolen vehicle struck several cars and an RCMP cruiser in Lloydminster.

RCMP responded to multiple 911 calls about an erratic driver on the city’s south side on Jan. 13 at around 3 p.m. Officers located the vehicle, which had been reported stolen, and began a pursuit due to the danger it posed to the public.

During the chase, the stolen vehicle hit an RCMP cruiser. The officer involved was not injured.

The arrests were made after a coordinated effort involving Lloydminster RCMP, Maidstone RCMP, Kitscoty RCMP, Wilton Police, ALERT, and SERT. Police also recovered the stolen vehicle.

“This was a very fluid situation,” said Cst. Paul Ritchie of Lloydminster RCMP’s General Investigations Section. “Collaboration between multiple police units in several jurisdictions ended this dangerous event without injuries to police or the public.”

A 15-year-old girl, who cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, faces multiple charges:

  • Flight from police
  • Assault on a police officer with a weapon
  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
  • Impaired operation of a motor vehicle
  • Possession of stolen property over $5,000

The youth was released on a release order after appearing before a justice of the peace. She is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 11 in Lloydminster.

Additionally, two men, aged 27 and 30, were also charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000. Both are residents of Lloydminster and are set to appear in court on Mar. 4. Their names have not been released as their charges are not yet before the courts.
