NEAJBHL: Two out of three ain’t bad for Bandits

The Lloydminster Bandits were singing Meat Loaf on Sunday night after two wins and a loss in St. Paul, Vermilion and Vegreville.

Playing out of the North Eastern Alberta Jr. B Hockey League (NEAJBHL), the Bandits beat the St. Paul Canadiens 5-4 on Jan. 24 and the Vegreville Rangers 10-5 on Jan. 26. They couldn’t however, tame the Vermilion Tigers on Jan. 25, losing 6-3.

Despite the loss, the Bandits remain second in NEAJBHL standings with 49 points, five behind the Wainwright Bisons and six ahead of the Tigers.

Friday’s overtime-win in St. Paul saw goals from Aiden Martens, Braydan Edwards, Jayden Plamondon and Corvan Stewart. The game winner went to Ethan Jubinville. Canadiens’ goals came from Rylan Cardinal, Bryce Coutney, Kolby Miller and Aiden Ma.

Saturday didn’t go as planned with the first-place Tigers besting the Bandits 6-3. Lloydminster goals on Jan. 25 came from Plamondon, Chad Bates and Maddux Woodbury.

Sunday, however, saw the Bandits find the spark they were looking for on Jan. 25 with a 10-5 win over Vegreville. Jayden Plamondon was first to tickle the twine early in the first. Adryan Bugiera followed 20 seconds later for a 2-0 lead. Ethan Bast, however, got the Rangers on the board before the end of the first.

The second frame saw a short-handed goal from Webb 1:30 in before Plamondon and Bugiera both completed hat tricks. Vegreville’s Ashton Butz made it a 7-2 game with 2:24 remaining in the second.

The third period saw Bandits’ goals from Stewart, a fourth from Bugiera, and one from Jubinville.

Bandits captain, Joel Webb, also recently took over the top spot for NEAJBHL point leaders after assistant captain Kade Dennett held it for a majority of the season. Furthermore, four Bandits are currently in the league’s top-10 for points with Webb and Dennett followed by Adryan Bugiera (sixth overall) and Jayden Plamondon (10th).
