Cenovus pairs with Lloyd fire for safety

Cenovus Energy funding will help the Lloydminster Fire Department improve fire safety training and emergency responses.

The $60,000 donation helped purchase three key pieces of equipment, including a skid unit, fire extinguisher training prop and equipment trailer.

As a major employer in the area, Cenovus aims to strengthen emergency preparedness in local communities.

“Cenovus is committed to strengthening community resiliency in the areas where our employees live and work,” said vice-president of Canadian downstream manufacturing, Heather Sazdov.

“Supporting the Lloydminster Fire Department and its purchase of advanced training and field equipment helps enhance our community’s ability to respond to crises effectively,”

The skid unit allows firefighters to reach difficult areas, including Bud Miller All Seasons Park and annexation lands. This improves emergency response in hard-to-access locations. The equipment trailer will keep training tools secure and ready to use. Additionally, it helps transport equipment for outreach and education programs.

Meanwhile, the fire extinguisher training prop teaches people how to use fire extinguishers. It simulates different fire scenarios, such as oven and paint can fires. This tool will help train businesses, organizations, and community members.

The new equipment will help the Lloydminster Fire Department better deliver education and emergency response to the community.

“This contribution helps us expand our training programs and improve our ability to respond to emergencies across the community,” said Bill Heesing, acting Fire Chief of the Lloydminster Fire Department. “These tools will ensure we are prepared for various situations. We thank Cenovus for their ongoing support of the Lloydminster Fire Department and commitment to community safety.”
