Stolen fire truck affects response

Bonnyville Regional Fire Authority.

The Bonnyville Regional Fire Service (BRFS) is recovering a stolen fire truck from Iron River.

According to Cpl. Mathew Howell, public information officer for the RCMP, the truck was stolen on April 9 and located this morning.

“It was located this morning in a ditch outside the Iron River community,” stated Howell.

The department credits social media in helping locate the missing vehicle after a public Facebook post by BRFS went viral.

Meanwhile, RCMP confirmed there was a need for the truck while it was missing.

“Within hours of this truck being stolen, Iron River did receive a fire call and this truck was out of service, impacting their ability to respond as they would normally,” said Howell.

There is no word on damages or when the truck will be back in service. Additionally, The Source has reached out to BRFS for further details.
