The newest exhibit, the Art of Oliver Holtby, features a vast array of watercolour works on paper by Holtby.

He was born in England in 1882 and displayed a passion for art and music before immigrating to Canada with the Barr Colonists in 1903.

Holtby remained dedicated to his artistic pursuits and drew inspiration from his English homeland and his new prairie home.

As Lloydminster grew, so did Holtby’s influence within the community, which became a cultural cornerstone. He was not just an artist, but a musician and instructor.

“This exhibition honours not just an artist, but a community builder whose life and work continue to inspire. By showcasing his art, we celebrate the enduring spirit of creativity Oliver Holtby gave to Lloydminster,” said museum technician Elizabeth Brandeau.

Eventually, Holtby passed away at the age of 92. The exhibit runs May 3-17, giving residents a chance to experience Holtby’s art.
