The City of Lloydminster held its annual Hazardous Material Round-up to help residents safely dispose of tricky waste on May 3 at the Lloyd Ex.
Vehicles were lined up and down 49 Ave. shortly after the gates opened at 10 a.m.
“Residents often run across materials they don’t know how to dispose of,” said Lucas van Assem, the city’s pollution prevention program co-ordinator. “This can be anything from chemicals to tires to aerosol cans.”

According to Assem, lithium batteries are a growing concern.
“It is very important to dispose of those correctly,” he said. “We’ve teamed up with a local group to handle lithium batteries. They’re the hardest to get rid of, but even double-A and triple-A batteries are getting harder to dispose of.”
The city works with local partners to manage the collected materials.
“We have partnerships with DBS, E360, Tirecraft, and Inland Steel,” said van Assem. “These companies help us collect everything in one spot to make it easy.”
Van Assem also noted residents can find disposal rules on the city’s website.
“The landfill page has a full list of what can and can’t go to the landfill,” he said. “You can also call me at the Operations Center for help.”
