EVANS, Grace Eileen: August 29, 1933 (Lloydminster, SK) – February 1, 2025 (New Westminster, BC) Grace, who was born in the border town of Lloydminster as the middle child to Ora (nee Moore) and Desmond Evans, passed away peacefully at age 91. Grace grew up in rural Alberta, with primary schooling in Spencer and Golden Valley and high school in Kitscoty. Grace got her RN from U of A School of Nursing (1954), followed by post-grad and BN at McGill (1966). She practiced nursing in Alberta, Nova Scotia (VON), Ontario and BC, including as nursing instructor, OR nurse and community/public health nurse, until she retired in 1992. Sparked by time as a CP Air stewardess in her 20s, Grace travelled into her 80s, seeing all the continents via many transportation modes (including rafting in the Arctic, cruising to the Antarctic and canoeing in the Amazon) and creating lasting memories along the way. Grace also enjoyed photography, gardening, her Mustang, researching family history, collecting various items, helping others, and socializing with classmates, friends and extended family. Grace was a long-time resident and volunteer in Burnaby, BC, and two-type cancer survivor. Grace is survived by her younger brother Alan (Audrey), former sister-in-law Ann (Sonny), brother-in-law Cecil, nephews Evan and Alan, nieces Laura and Jennifer, as well as grand-nephews and grand-nieces, many cousins and their families. Grace was predeceased by her sister Edith, her parents and several well-loved aunts and uncles. Special thanks to the staff at the Salvation Army Buchanan Lodge for their care and kindness during her last two years. A small service was held at her final resting place of Ocean View Funeral Home and Burial Park, 4000 Imperial St, Burnaby, BC, on May 5, 2025. In lieu of flowers, in memoriam donations can be made to animal or human health-related Canadian charities of which Grace generously supported many over the years.
