The town has approved a motion made by the Parks, Recreation, Culture and Environment board to award a $1,000 grant to Vermilion Minor Ball.

Deputy Mayor Joshua Rayment gave some background for the grant the town offers at a recent council meeting.
“In the budget, council allots $4,000 annually, which allows for a $1,000 grant quarterly to a community group,” he said. “We have an application form people can fill out and send into the park’s, rec, environment and culture board. It’s reviewed by them and then approved on an ad hoc basis.”
He says despite the town budgeting for these grants, they didn’t receive applications in the first quarter.
“This last year, this is our second one I believe. We actually didn’t receive anything in the first period at all,” said Rayment. “If there’s any community groups looking to do stuff, it’s a good thing to get in on.”
The application for the grant from Vermilion Minor Ball will help pay for a new commercial fridge at their concession booth at the Pioneer Park ball diamonds.
“Vermilion minor ball came to us, they presented how many people in town they affect, the families, what they do and how they do it,” said Rayment. “It was a great presentation showing this grant is going to a great place. They’re buying a new commercial fridge so they can host bigger and better tournaments.
“I’d encourage any other community groups to get your name in there, it doesn’t hurt to try.”
Applications can be obtained through city hall.
