When K&L Electric recently handed over a check to the Kiwanis Club of Lloydminster, it wasn’t something club secretary Vera Gallant was expecting.

“I stopped by K&L Electric yesterday to sell 50-50 tickets and walked out with a $500 cheque along with some ticket sales,” said Gallant in a social media post.

The Kiwanis Club was one of 10 local community non-profits to receive money from the company.

According to K&L partner and operations manager, Justin Procyshen, the community giveaway program was a way to highlight and support local organizations.

“For us, Lloydminster has been great. A rewarding place to do business,” said Procyshen. “Giving back to the community that supports us and our staff is something we are fortunate to be able to do and genuinely enjoy doing.”

Cheques for $500 were provided to the following organizations:

  • Border Paws
  • Lloydminster Kinsmen
  • Midwest Family Connections
  • Kitscoty Community Cabin 4 Kids
  • Lloydminster and area brain injury society
  • Lloydminster Sexual Assault Services
  • Kiwanis Club of Lloydminster
  • Lloydminster Rescue Squad
  • Spark Foundation
  • Lloydminster Cheer Parent Fundraiser Committee

Organizations thankful

Lloydminster Sexual Assault Services was thankful to K&L and those who took the time to nominate community organizations.

“K&L Electric’s $5,000 Community Giveaway is a reminder of the kindness and generosity that makes our community so special,” they said on social media.

“We’re grateful to call this caring and connected community our own. Thank you, K&L Electric, for this wonderful contribution.”

The Lloydminster Rescue Squad will be putting the donation to good use, and quickly.

“Recently, on a call, we had some turnout gear damaged, so this will help us pay for that gear,” said Chief Norm Namur. “We could not do what we do without the continued generous support of the community.”

On top of donating money to the community, K&L also recently supported the electricians at the Cenovus Hub by purchasing nearly 50 Blizzards from Dairy Queen

K&L’s now-completed project is a reminder the whole community thrives when local businesses and residents support one another.
