Smith showcasing Alberta in Middle East

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith is in the Middle East this week to promote investment opportunities, energy expertise and agricultural products.

Smith left for Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Oct. 27 and will return on Nov. 5.

The premier is set to meet with senior government officials and industry leaders to strengthen ties in the energy, health and investment sectors.

During the trip, Smith will hold discussions with executives from Saudi Aramco, one of the world’s largest oil companies, as well as representatives overseeing the country’s sovereign wealth investments. Her meetings in the energy sector will focus on highlighting Alberta’s strengths in traditional and emerging energy resources, emissions management and technology innovation.

According to the province, Smith will use the opportunity to promote Alberta as a competitive destination for international investment across multiple sectors, emphasizing the province’s role in advancing global energy security and reliability.

“Alberta and our partners in the Middle East share a spirit of ambition and innovation,” she said. “We’ve been working to deepen engagement across the region and are taking the next step by opening our new international office in Abu Dhabi.

“This mission is about building bridges and showcasing everything Alberta has to offer. By working together in areas like energy, technology, agriculture and trade, we can create opportunities that strengthen our economies and improve the lives of people in both regions. When it comes to Alberta, there truly is power in partnership.”

While in the UAE, Smith will join Minister of Jobs, Economy, Trade and Immigration, Joseph Schow and a delegation of Alberta companies participating in the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC) 2025, the world’s largest energy industry event.

Smith will also announce the opening of Alberta’s new trade office in Abu Dhabi and participate in roundtable discussions with investors and government officials to promote opportunities across multiple sectors, including food security, health innovation, digital technologies and artificial intelligence.
