A number of procurements were awarded, including two to local businesses.
“There were a couple of local procurements awarded,” said Mika Wangler, procurement officer, City of lloydminster. “The municipal development standards under planning and engineering the snow removal contract under leisure services (were awarded).”
Snow removal for the Cenovus Energy Hub was given to Sidewinder Bobcat Service for an estimated $132,000 over three years.
Tracy Simpson, executive manager of community development services, says $44K a year is an estimate for the contract.
“We do pay a flat rate to ensure a level of service and a timely response and then we pay based on quantity of snow, especially the hauling,” she said.
Deputy Mayor David Lopez says it’s often cheaper to contract services out, pointing to the cost of the equipment that would only get used for a portion of the year.
“For the city to have all the equipment they would need to remove the snow, you would be looking at a lot of equipment sitting around through the summertime,” he said.
The other local contract was awarded to McElhanney Ltd. for $99,700 for the municipal development standards update.
Weaver Park Campgrounds will also see a caretaker for a three-year, $309,900 term, which was awarded to MP2A Management.
Don Stang, executive manager of operations ,clarified some of the duties of the caretaker.
“Grounds, maintenance, grass cutting is the responsibility of the City of Lloydminster. This contract is responsible for all duties, requirements with taking the bookings, registering, being on-site, supporting the campers,” he said. “It’s more so to ensure the campers are getting the experience that warrants registering at the campground.”
There is a residence trailer on the campground site that can be used for them to stay in over the summer months.
