The application process opened Thursday and will close on June 23.

The funding is part of a larger four-year, $54-million bilateral agreement signed with the federal government in 2023. It aligns with Alberta’s 10-year strategy to end gender-based violence by focusing on victim support, education, legal navigation and system coordination.

“It is critical that survivors receive the support they need to navigate the justice system and ultimately heal,” Mickey Amery, provincial minister of justice and attorney general, said in a statement. “Alberta’s approach expands the range of supports available, so survivors can get access to the help they need.”

The grant offers two streams of funding for Alberta-based organizations, including registered non-profits, municipalities, charities and Indigenous communities. Returning organizations can apply for grants between $75,000 and $200,000, while new applicants are eligible for amounts ranging from $50,000 to $100,000.

Tanya Fir, minister of arts, culture and status of women, said the province’s 10-year strategy aims to create lasting change by expanding survivor-centred services and improving access to justice.

Federal minister of women and gender equality Rechie Valdez said Ottawa is proud to partner with the province through the National Action Plan to End Gender-based Violence.

“Meaningful change takes collaboration, and by working together with the provincial government, Indigenous communities and frontline organizations, we can build a more responsive system for survivors across Alberta,” Valdez said.
