Cold Lake RCMP say its Crime Reduction Unit launched an investigation in early July after police responded to 16 reported break-and-enters since early June, sparking significant concern among local business owners.

Mounties, with assistance from specialized units and Police Dog Services, executed a search warrant at a home on 47 St on June 9.

Michael Daniels of Cold Lake was arrested and has been charged with five counts of break and enter to commit theft, two counts of break and enter with intent, eight counts of wearing a disguise with intent and one count of mischief.

Following a bail hearing, Daniels was remanded in custody and appeared at the Alberta Court of Justice in Lac La Biche on July 13.

Police extended their thanks to downtown business owners for providing crucial surveillance footage.

“Your willingness to work with investigators played an important role in advancing this investigation and ultimately led to an arrest,” Const. Jordan Walker of the Cold Lake Crime Reduction Unit said. “We recognize the significant impact this suspect’s actions had on our local business community.”

Walker added that affected businesses can expect updates from the RCMP as the court process moves forward.
