This year’s fundraising goal is $50,000, with proceeds supporting expanded shelter services and transitional housing initiatives in Lloydminster.

Now in its third year, Running for Shelter has grown beyond a simple 5K run. Organizers say the event is designed to build community connections while supporting practical solutions for people facing housing instability.

Participants can run or walk the 5K course, join a fundraising team or collect pledges from friends, family members and co-workers.

Full afternoon of activities

The event will feature a full afternoon of activities following the run, including a barbecue, live music, local vendors, sponsor booths, children’s activities, wellness experiences and other family-friendly entertainment.

Organizers are encouraging participants to create personal fundraising pages and invite others to support their efforts. Businesses, community groups and families are invited to form teams and take part in a friendly fundraising challenge.

“We want this to be an event people look forward to,” said Allan Bartolcic, CEO of the Lloydminster Social Action Coalition Society. “There is an important conversation happening in our community about homelessness.”

Supporting shelter expansion

Funds raised will help support the Lloydminster Men’s Shelter’s efforts to expand services and develop transitional housing opportunities. The goal is to help people transition from emergency shelter into stable housing and greater independence.

The event takes place Sunday, Sept. 27 at Bud Miller All Seasons Park. Registration details are available through the shelter.
