The Government of Saskatchewan announced that appointments opened Tuesday. Both vaccines are free of charge for anyone aged six months and older, and residents can choose to receive them in a single appointment or separately.

Health Minister Jeremy Cockrill urged eligible residents to get vaccinated as the fall season gets underway.

“As we head into the fall season, getting immunized is a simple step we can all take to protect ourselves and the people around us,” Cockrill said in a release. “I encourage all residents who are eligible to consider making immunization part of their preparations for this upcoming flu season.”

High-risk groups — including seniors, individuals with chronic health conditions or compromised immune systems, pregnant women, and children under five — are encouraged to book their shots as soon as possible.

Dr. Julie Kryzanowski, the Saskatchewan Health Authority’s (SHA) senior medical health officer, echoed those sentiments.

“Getting immunized early this fall is one of the best ways to protect yourself and the people you care about,” Kryzanowski said. “We encourage everyone to get vaccinated as soon as possible to help reduce the spread of influenza and COVID-19 and keep our communities healthy.”

Vaccinations are available at public health clinics, participating local pharmacies, and select physician and nurse practitioner offices. However, the SHA notes that children between six months and five years old must receive their immunizations through an SHA public health clinic, public health office, or by a physician or nurse practitioner.

Residents can book appointments or find walk-in clinics online through the SHA’s booking portal at www.4flu.ca or by calling 1-833-727-5829 Monday through Friday during regular business hours. Anyone with a preferred local pharmacy is encouraged to contact them directly to confirm COVID-19 vaccine availability.

Additional information on symptoms and respiratory health care is available by calling HealthLine 811.
