Site preparation is scheduled to begin this fall, with bulk fertilizer bins set to be installed next spring. According to the co-op, the state-of-the-art facility is designed to improve service efficiency, safety, and product flexibility for local agricultural producers.

At the core of the new operation is an 8-bin volumetric blending system, which will accommodate a wider selection of fertilizer options, including slow-release nitrogen and micronutrients. The plant will also feature a Procote treatment system to meet growing demand for treated fertilizer options.

Additional facility upgrades include a new fertilizer office, improved traffic flow, enhanced site grading and drainage, and updated conveyors alongside load-in and load-system infrastructure.

Kara Johnston, director of agro operations for the co-op, said the investment reinforces long-term support for local agriculture.

“Our goal is to ensure our members have reliable, timely access to the products they need and trust, particularly during the critical windows of the growing season,” Johnston said in a statement. “Just as importantly, this facility is being designed with the flexibility to accommodate new technologies and innovative fertilizer products as agricultural practices continue to evolve.”

The facility incorporates automated blending technology, overhead load-out scales, and a bucket elevator receiving system. Co-op officials noted that the design eliminates the need for machinery loaders to operate inside the blending shed, establishing a safer working environment.

The project follows a strong financial year for the organization. In 2025, the Lloydminster & District Co-op returned $5.2 million in cash and equity to its members. Operating 14 retail locations across the region, the co-op continues to invest heavily in its agricultural network and community initiatives.
