According to government data released Thursday, total sales rose 19 per cent over 2024. The growth was spearheaded by a 24 per cent jump in uranium sales, which hit a record $3.2 billion, and an 18 per cent increase in potash sales, totaling $9.3 billion.

“Potash continues to be a core pillar of our strong economy,” Energy and Resources Minister Chris Beaudry said in a statement. “The diversity of our natural resources sector is our strength and one of the reasons Saskatchewan is a true critical minerals powerhouse.”

Expansion into New Minerals

The province is also on the verge of diversifying its mineral output. By the end of 2026, Saskatchewan expects to begin commercial production of copper, zinc, and lithium—minerals never before produced in the province.

Eldorado Gold Corp. is slated to launch operations at its McIlvenna Bay copper-zinc-gold-silver project by mid-2025, while Prairie Lithium Ltd. remains on track to begin production before the end of next year.

Investment and Exploration Lead Canada

Saskatchewan led the country in mineral resource development spending in 2025, with $6.7 billion in annual investment—roughly 25 per cent of the national total.

To maintain this momentum, the provincial government extended the Targeted Mineral Exploration Incentive (TMEI) in the most recent budget. Since 2018, the program has supported 131 projects, resulting in an estimated $245 million in expenditures.

“Saskatchewan continues to build strong momentum as a destination of choice for resource development,” said Jon Weisblatt, CEO of Trident Resources Corp., noting that the incentive has been “instrumental” in advancing exploration in the La Ronge Gold Belt.

The mining sector currently employs more than 20,000 people across the province and accounts for more than $3 billion in annual procurement from local businesses.
