An Onion Lake man faces 10 criminal charges following a series of events Wednesday morning that included a vehicle rollover, the theft of a Good Samaritan’s truck, a police pursuit and an assault at a local business.

At about 6:35 a.m. on July 22, Maidstone RCMP and emergency medical services responded to a single-vehicle rollover on Highway 17, roughly one kilometre south of Sandy Beach.
Police said that following the crash, the driver stole a truck from a passerby who had stopped to render assistance. The suspect fled south on Highway 17 in the stolen vehicle.
Onion Lake RCMP located the stolen truck shortly after and attempted a traffic stop with emergency equipment activated. The driver refused to stop and fled from officers.
A short time later, the vehicle was abandoned at a business in Onion Lake, where police say the suspect assaulted an individual and attempted to steal another vehicle. Responding officers arrived at the scene and placed the man under arrest.
Garrett Stanley, 25, of Onion Lake, has been charged with:
- Robbery
- Theft of a truck
- Assaulting a peace officer with a weapon or causing bodily harm
- Taking a motor vehicle without consent
- Impaired operation of a motor vehicle
- Operation while prohibited
- Aggravated assault
- Flight from a peace officer
- Failure to comply with a release order condition
- Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
Stanley made his first appearance in Lloydminster Provincial Court on July 23.
An adult male passenger who remained at the site of the initial rollover was transported to hospital by EMS with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Lloydminster RCMP Crime Reduction Team and Lloydminster RCMP Police Dog Services assisted with the investigation.
