The Town of Vermilion is proceeding with airport repairs after a grant fell through.

“We did apply for funding for the overlay work through strategic transportation infrastructure program (STIP). Unfortunately, we were unsuccessful this year in our application,” explained Robert Dauphinee, Vermilion’s director of infrastructure and planning services.
He noted they plan to continue to pursue the funding for the work.
“Our intent is to go back the next year. We’ll update our application and come back again and continue with the ask,” he said.
The ask of council is to move $15,387 from the airport reserve to help fund the project.
“We do have approximately $132K presently in the airport reserve and anticipating another $150K added as part of this year’s budget and process,” Daphinee said.
Coun. Kellen Snelgrove said it’s money well spent, as their intention is to maintain the airport.
“This council has stated we want to keep our airport in good working order,” he said, noting that’s why they put money into the airport reserve.
Council awarded the contract for runway crack sealing to Applied Products Ltd. in the amount of $75,887 and runway pavement marking to Marshall Line Painting Ltd. in the amount of $9,500 for a total project cost of $85,387.
