Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe will headline the final day of the 2026 Lloydminster Heavy Oil Show, organizers announced last week.

The biennial event runs Sep. 16-17 at the Lloydminster Ex, with opening ceremonies and a fireside chat scheduled for the evening of Sep. 15.
Moe will anchor a lunch discussion on Sep. 17, closing out two days of programming focused on heavy oil development and energy sector challenges.
Opening night fireside chat
The opening-night fireside chat at the WLS Convention Centre will feature Dr. Heather Exner-Pirot, senior fellow and director of natural resources, energy and environment with the Macdonald-Laurier Institute, alongside Robin Zabek, chief operating officer of exploration and production for Canadian Natural Resources Limited.
Mayor Gerald Aalbers will moderate the discussion.
Day one program
The first full day of programming on Sep. 16 opens with the exhibit hall trade show from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The morning session features a presentation titled “Working Energy: Security Starts with Talent,” led by Pat Hufnagel-Smith, partner with Creative Links Inc.
A noon Energy Forum Update Luncheon will include Chris Beaudry, Saskatchewan’s minister of energy and resources, and Robert Cooper, vice-president of institutional sales with Acumen Capital Partners.
Commercial strategist Deidra Garyk will moderate that session.
Later that afternoon, attendees can hear about new industry developments from Vern Hult, president of Evolution Oil Tools Inc., and Ben Gagnon, the company’s engineering manager.
The day concludes with the SLB Shrimp Boil at the WLS Convention Centre from 7:00 to 11:00 p.m.
Day two program
The second and final day of the show will feature two discussions focused on the future of energy development in the Lloydminster region.
The morning session will feature John Soini, executive vice-president of upstream, thermal and Atlantic offshore operations with Cenovus Energy, hosted by Aalbers.
The exhibit hall trade show will run from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Premier Moe’s noon session will close out the event.
The Lloydminster Heavy Oil Show brings together industry, government and community leaders to discuss heavy oil production challenges and opportunities in the Border City region.
