Agrifoods International Cooperative Ltd. has been fined $100,000 after pleading guilty to an occupational health and safety violation connected to a worker injury at its Saskatoon facility, according to the Saskatchewan government.
The company entered its guilty plea on Sept. 29, 2026, in Saskatoon Provincial Court, the province said.
What the charge involved
Agrifoods was charged with contravening subsection 11-2(2) of The Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, 2020, for failing as an employer to ensure only trained operators were permitted to run powered mobile equipment, according to the province.

Two additional charges against the company were withdrawn, the province said.
The charges stemmed from an incident on Nov. 20, 2023, in Saskatoon, in which a worker was seriously injured while working as a wash bay attendant.
The worker was pinched between a semi tractor and a milk tanker trailer, according to the province.
Breakdown of the fine
The court imposed a fine of $71,428.57 along with a victim fine surcharge of $28,571.43, bringing the total penalty to $100,000, the province said.
Saskatchewan’s Ministry of Labour Relations and Workplace Safety says it works with employers and workers to eliminate workplace injuries and illnesses through education, intervention and enforcement.
Part of a broader enforcement pattern
The penalty is the latest in a series of workplace safety fines issued across the region in recent years, following cases such as the penalty handed down for a separate workplace injury and the $125,000 fine against Nutrien for an occupational health and safety violation in Alberta.
Co-op and agri-processing facilities employ a significant share of the workforce across the Lloydminster region, making powered mobile equipment training a standing concern for both Saskatchewan and Alberta workplace safety regulators.
