Residents and businesses are encouraged to join in the community spring cleaning fun during Community Cleanup week from May 1-8.
The annual event includes the community-favourite Pitch-in Week, presented by Mary Brown’s throughout the entire week, and Household Hazardous Waste Roundup on May 7.
“It’s important we combine our efforts in keeping our community clean and help preserve our environment,” says Karen Dela Rosa, Senior Manager of Waste Services. “Each year, we look forward to this event as it increases the city’s vibrancy and builds community.”
During Pitch-In Week, residents and community groups are encouraged to sweep sidewalks, pick up litter, and complete other cleaning measures within their properties and community spaces.
“Together, we can invest in our community by properly disposing of waste, recycling and keeping our neighbourhoods clean,” says Mayor Gerald Aalbers.
In partnership with neighbouring municipalities and the Toxic Roundup Committee, the Household Hazardous Waste Roundup will be held on Saturday, May 7, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Lloydminster Exhibition Grounds.
During this event, residents are encouraged to properly dispose of household quantities of the following items: TVs, monitors, printers, laptops/notebooks, used oils, paint and paint cans, fertilizers, toxic products, pesticides/weed killers, cleaning products/solvents, medications, used oil filters, antifreeze, automotive/truck/SUV tires, drugs and pills, sharps and needles, propane tanks, aerosol cans, batteries (wet and dry), cellphones and various household electronics.
Certain items, including toilets, baby walkers, cribs and car seats, will not be accepted.
Lloydminster residents can arrange for free household hazardous waste pickup by calling 780-872-1136 before 6 p.m. on Friday, May 6. All arranged items must be properly contained, especially hazardous materials, and available for curbside pickup on Saturday, May 7.
