On May 16 at approximately 2:30 a.m., Meadow Lake RCMP received a report of a shooting at a residence on Flying Dust First Nation.
Officers immediately responded. Upon arrival, they located an injured adult male, who was taken to hospital for treatment of injuries that were described as being serious but non-life-threatening.
Investigation has determined two males approached the residence. An altercation occurred and a firearm was discharged, injuring the victim. The males then fled from the residence. The victim was taken to hospital after police arrival. He was last reported to be stable; we will not be providing further updates on his condition.
As a result of investigation, with assistance from Saskatchewan RCMP’s North Battleford and Saskatoon Provincial General Investigation Sections, Meadow Lake RCMP has charged two individuals in connection with this incident.
The two individuals are under the age of 18 and, as a result, cannot be named as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act. They have each been charged with one count, attempt murder as well as numerous other offences. They are both wanted on warrant.
There is a provision under the Youth Criminal Justice Act that allows the publication of a youth’s name under certain circumstances, including when it is necessary to assist in apprehending them; Meadow Lake RCMP is currently examining that possibility.
In the meantime, investigators believe there are individuals that have knowledge of this incident and of the whereabouts of the two youth.
