The City of Lloydminster is assisting Canadian Pacific Railway and environmental authorities following a fuel spill caused by the partial derailment of two locomotive engines on the tracks parallel to 52 Street, between 40 Ave. and 50 Ave. in Lloydminster.
The train derailment occurred on the morning of Sunday, June 25 when the City’s fire and emergency management teams were dispatched to assist. After assessing the affected area, no hazardous materials were found to have left the incident area, and steps have been taken to mitigate the spread of any spilled fuel. The City will continue to monitor the area for potential runoff.
Emergency response teams and environmental agencies are working diligently to ensure the safe cleanup and restoration of the affected area.
No injuries have been reported as a result of the incident.
The outside westbound lane on 52 Street between 45 Ave. and 47 Ave. is closed. Motorists are advised to exercise caution and slow down when driving through the area. The inside westbound lane and both eastbound lanes remain open at this time.
