The County of Vermilion River is sending equipment and fire crews to help battle wildfires in Jasper.
The call for assistance from the province came late Wednesday, July 24 , according to a Facebook post by the County of Vermilion River Protective Services.
County Engine #6-2 was sent staffed with firefighters from across the county fire service.
“Joining us are crews from Irma Fire Rescue, Wainwright Fire & Rescue, Minburn County Fire Department and Vegreville Fire Department, students of Lakeland College – Emergency Training Centre, members of the Canadian Armed Forces as well as many others,” read the Facebook post by the County of Vermilion River Protective Services.
The last update regarding the situation inside the Jasper townsite came at 10 p.m. July 24 from the Jasper National Park.
“Structural firefighters continue to work to save as many structures as possible and to protect critical infrastructure.
“Many more structural firefighters are en route to provide assistance.”
