An Oktoberfest funding request has been denied by the Town of Bonnyville.
Council reviewed the funding request during the Aug. 27 meeting.
Jane Wandler from 4 Wing Personnel Support Programs requested $7,875 in funding.
The 2024 Octoberfest event will be held on Sept. 21 in the Club 21 parking lot at CFB Cold Lake. There will be 400 tickets available for the event at a cost of $40 each with the budget for the event sitting at $34,000.
The recommendation put forward by staff was to deny the funding request.
Mayor Elisa Brosseau says she would like to see the Town sponsor the event in some way.
“I’ll support whatever councils’ recommendation, but I’d like to see us at least sponsor this for a small amount.”
Coun. Kayla Blanchette inquired into reason why the staff commendation was to deny the sponsorship.
Administration clarified the recommendation was put forward because council has not sponsored the event in the past, and it is usually funded through ticket and bar sales.
“And because it was limited to the 400 tickets, administration considered it not open to the public,” explained city administration.
Council voted in favour of denying the sponsorship with no additional motions made.
