Council has voted to appoint three members to the Community Services Advisory Committee.
The committee is a group of community volunteers that the city calls on to assist in making recommendations around the allocation of grants. The three grant programs the committee currently makes recommendations for are, Family Community Support Services Grant, the Saskatchewan Lotteries Community Grant and the Safe and Health Communities Grant.
Kent Weir, Nathani Karkanis and Jennifer Shymanski were reappointed to the council for a two year period.
There is also a vacant position on the committee for a youth member.
“Bringing that youth perspective is so important, thank you for this and I’m certainly in support of it,” said Coun. Lorelee Marin.
Patrick Lancaster, who presented this item on behalf of the city says the youth must be under 25-years-old.
“Ideally someone Grade 10, someone who is not graduating right away so they could at least serve a couple of years without that barrier of post high school plans,” said Lancaster.
Lancaster said they’ve had a lot of success with grade 10 students joining and becoming part of the committee.
Volunteers appointed to the committee cannot be appointed to the committee for more than 10 successive years.
