A 14-year-old girl from Flying Dust First Nation is dead after a weekend incident involving an ATV.
On Sept. 21 at approximately 4:15 a.m., a Meadow Lake RCMP officer observed two individuals operating an ATV without wearing helmets in Meadow Lake, Sask.
The officer activated their emergency lights in an attempt to stop the ATV. It continued at a high rate of speed on Highway #55 towards Flying Dust First Nation.
The officer didn’t pursue, deactivated their emergency equipment, and then observed the ATV turn south off the highway, where it subsequently struck the ditch.
The officer immediately responded. EMS arrived at the scene after one of the occupants became unresponsive. They attempted life-saving measures; however, they declared the individual deceased.
RCMP has identified her as a 14-year-old female from Flying Dust First Nation. Her family has been notified. The second occupant reported minor injuries and was treated by EMS on scene.
Meadow Lake RCMP continues to investigate with the assistance of the Saskatchewan Coroners Service.
