Lloydminster RCMP make arrest in drug investigation

Lloydminster RCMP have seized drugs in the community following an investigation.

Lloydminster RCMP General Investigation Section (GIS) with the help of the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team executed a search warrant following investigation into suspected drug trafficking activities in Lloydminster Village.

As part of the operation, 28 grams of methamphetamines, 14 grams of fentanyl, nearly $2,000 in cash, drug trafficking paraphernalia and a stole vehicle were seized.

“Those who produce and traffic illicit drugs destroy lives, homes and communities, this seizure demonstrates our commitment to combating the distribution of dangerous drugs in our community,” said Cpl. Christopher Byford of Lloydminster RCMP GIS.

John Penney, a 55-year-old resident of Lloydminster has been charged with: possession for the purposes of trafficking methamphetamine, possession for the purposes of trafficking fentanyl, possession of proceeds of crime under $5,000.

Penney was taken before a justice of the peace and was released on conditions. He is scheduled to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Lloydminster on Jan. 14, 2025.
