Firefighters from the County of Vermilion River recently attended two separate vehicle accidents. One even required specialized equipment.
According to their social media pages, the incidents happened on Jan. 9 and 10.
Paramedics requested Vermilion Fire and Rescue Society on Jan. 9 for a snowmobile collision. The incident occurred north of town by Vermilion River.
On Thursday, Vermilion Fire & Rescue Society was alerted for an assistance call with Medavie Health Services West – Northeast Alberta for a skidoo rider who had struck a rock and was injured just north of town by the river.
According to Vermilion Fire Chief, Anton Krys, firefighters responded with specialized equipment, including a sled/stretcher, and transported the patient to a waiting ambulance. The male was alert and in stable condition.
Additionally, Marwayne Fire and Rescue attended a collision on Jan. 10 on Highway 897.
Upon arrival between Township Road 521 and 522, they found all occupants out of the vehicles with only minor injuries.
Marwayne Chief, Ron Miske, reported firefighters stabilized the scene and were back in service in short order.
“County firefighters had a busy start to the New Year,” stated Kirk Hughes, director of protective services for the County of Vermilion River. “Between administrative task, training and calls, our staff and volunteers are hard at work already. We want to thank our dispatchers at EC911 for their professionalism as well as bystanders who are quick to call 911 and provide aid. That makes a huge difference in the outcome of these calls.”
