The Meridian Source is still celebrating after shining at the Saskatchewan Weekly Newspaper Association‘s (SWNA) awards.

The SWNA’s annual Better Newspaper Competition, held virtually on May 8, saw the Source pick up hardware in various categories.
Most notably, graphic designer Brent Michalenko was a three-peat winner in the Best Advertisement category. Michalenko won first, second and third for ads he designed for the Meridian Source throughout 2024.

Designer Yujin Chae also won the top prize in the Best Series of Advertisements category for her Source it! house ad.

Editor Taylor Weaver took home second place in the Best Sports Story category for his story about the Lakeland College Rustlers women’s basketball team, “Rustlers win national gold at home.”

Weaver also took second place for Best News Story of the Year for his coverage on the firing of former Rustlers’ women’s basketball coach Chris King.

In the photography categories, Weaver took third for Best Wildlife Photo and third for Photographer of the Year.


In the general excellence categories, the Source won third for Best Editorial Page for newspapers with a circulation over 6,500.
