An aerial applicator operator contacted the city as they are planning to provide service out of the airport starting in June 2025.
Administration noticed a gap in the bylaw.
“Upon review of the bylaw, administration noticed this service type is not referred to within the bylaw,” said Don Stang, executive manager of operations. “As such, a review was conducted and recommended changes were made.”
First reading was granted at the May 5 council meeting and is returning to council now for its final two readings.
“Since the first reading at the May 5, 2025, regular council meeting, there have been no changes to the bylaw,” said Stang.
The changes made to the bylaw include adding definitions for aerial applicators and bulk fuel storage and distribution. Updates were made to airport lands, aviation fuel pricing, private fuel handling systems and aerial applicator landing fees.
Aerial applicators will also be eligible for a discounted landing fee as part of the changes. The flights must be declared ahead of time with a minimum of 24 hours of notice.
Council granted second and third reading to the bylaw, adopting the bylaw and paving the way for the new business opening in June.
