The Town of Vermilion continues its work in creating and updating policies with the sponsorship and advertising policy.

The goal of the policy is to increase opportunities for revenue generation and safeguard the town’s corporate values, image, assets and interests.

The bylaw outlines details around what the town will advertise, where banners will go, what sponsorship and advertising will look like, along with parameters for advertising tobacco, cannabis and alcohol.

Coun. Robert Pulyk saw this is a positive step forward for the town.

“Thanks to administration for pulling together this particular policy,” he said. “I think it’s timely and provides defined process the public and council and administration can use going forward.”

The policies will be publicly available after being passed.

“After all the policies are approved, they’ll be on our website,” said Vermilion CAO Shannon Harrower. “There’ll be a new feature, it’ll say bylaws and policies and all the policies will be listed there by department.”

The new policy outlines specifics of how the town will deal with sponsorships and advertising.

“I think this is very important in today’s landscape with setting fair expectations for donations or gift in kind and things like that,” said Deputy Mayor Joshua Rayment.

“I think it very clearly lays out the expectations and what the town will do and our right to refuse things that put us in a bad position.”

Council voted in favour of approving the new policy.
