A visit from Legacy Regional Protective Services provided kids at Busy Bee’s Daycare with a hands-on lesson in fire safety.

The truck and crew met dozens of preschoolers in the parking lot near the Legacy Centre in Lloydminster on June 4. Nikky Noble, director of the daycare’s upstairs location, said the visit was organized to help children feel more comfortable during fire drills.

“We have lots of kids who are scared when we do fire drills,” said Noble. “So, we thought we’d bring the fire truck and have some firefighters teach them it’s okay — fire drills aren’t scary and we do them for safety.”

Children had the chance to meet firefighters and explore a real fire truck, helping turn a potentially scary topic into a learning opportunity.

“It’s just nice for them to see the fire trucks so they can learn a little more about it,” said Noble.

She said the visit also helps build trust between the children and first responders.

“Thanks to the fire department for coming out to do this for us and spending time on their day to show the kids a fire truck,” she said.

She said the daycare appreciates the support from the local fire department and looks forward to future visits.
