While on proactive patrol, Mounties noticed a stolen pickup truck parked at a residence. The occupants of the residence did not recognize the vehicle.
Through further investigation, a residence with possible stolen property was identified and RCMP obtained a warrant.
They arrived at the residence and noted someone trying to flee in a vehicle. The vehicle was stopped following the deployment of a tire deflation device and a suspect was arrested.
The search warrant was executed, resulting in the seizure of two shotguns, ammunition, a machete, a stolen vehicle and a stolen license plate.
As a result of the investigation, 32-year-old Simon Cardinal, a resident of Cold Lake, was arrested and charged with failure to stop, driving while prohibited, dangerous driving, possession of stolen property over $5,000, possession of stolen property under $5,000, three counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and other firearm-related offences.
Cardinal was brought before a justice of the peace and remanded into custody. He is set to appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in Cold Lake on Oct. 15.
