MD of Bonnyville election fields 19 candidates

The municipal election in the Municipal District (MD) of Bonnyville is shaping up to be a heater.

As of Wednesday, Oct. 8, there’s a three-way race for Reeve and a total of 19 candidates vying for a spot around the council table.

The Reeve position is elected at large with six other council positions, totalling seven seats at the table.

Incumbent Barry Kalinski is looking to retain his seat as Reeve as new contenders Greg Sawchuk and Darcy Skarsen, current Ward 2 councillor, look to take the top spot.

In the Ward 1 race, incumbent Josh Crick looks to keep his seat with Vania Lawrence challenging for the spot. Ward 2 has five candidates running, Audrey Campbell, Samuel Charles, Lawrence Ference, David Fox and Caroline Palmer. Ward 3 has Dan Amalia and Kenneth Pshyk running and Ward 4 sees incumbent Don Slipchuk running to keep his seat with Edward Duchesne running opposite.

In Ward 5, Norbert Dander, William Kenzie and Brian Koluk are looking to sit as Ward 5 councillor. Ben Fadeyiw, the Ward 6, incumbent is running again for his spot with Tim Ostertag challenging for the spot.
