In a statement following the win, Szydlik said she’s thankful to all the support she’s received throughout this process.
“I am honoured to have been elected to Town Council and deeply grateful for the support I’ve received throughout this campaign,” she said.
Szydlik acknowledged the other candidates and thanked them for their commitment to the community. She says it’s now time to get to work.
“I look forward to getting to work, listening and representing our community with care and integrity,” she said.
Voter turnout for the April 20 byelection saw 485 residents head to the polls, representing approximately 10.8 per cent of the town’s 4,486 eligible voters.
Szydlik captured 205 votes, followed by Michael Procinsky, who received 102 votes.
The council seat was made vacant by the sudden passing of Brian McEvoy in January.
