The sun’s been shining bright as of late, and Lloydminster has certainly seen its fair share of press releases from local and provincial police services.

In case you missed it, two major busts by Lloydminster RCMP were reported on April 21. The first involved a high-value drug seizure following a traffic stop just outside city limits on April 16. Mounties seized 500 grams of fentanyl, 1,000 grams of methamphetamine, more than 500 grams of cocaine and five litres of GHB, commonly known as the “date rape drug.” For reference, just two milligrams of fentanyl can be lethal.

The seizure came after Lloydminster RCMP reported responding to five suspected overdoses in a seven-hour period on April 13.

About an hour after issuing a news release about the drug seizure, RCMP reported a drug and firearm seizure following a motel bust on April 17. In this case, police seized about 28 grams of cocaine, 32 grams of methamphetamine, a firearm with a removed serial number and ammunition.

Last week, police also executed a search warrant at a residence on 22nd Street Close, seizing about 42 grams of cocaine, unstamped tobacco products, ammunition, a prohibited weapon, a quantity of cash and drug-trafficking paraphernalia.

All of this tells me a couple of things.

First, Lloydminster is not the sleepy town it may have once been. Second, the RCMP are working tirelessly to keep our streets safe.

Thank you to the Lloydminster RCMP for continuing to put your lives at risk to protect the community. It has not gone unnoticed.
