Lloydminster RCMP arrest man after reports of firearm aimed at vehicles, school bus

Lloydminster RCMP say a man has been arrested following reports of a firearm being pointed at vehicles, including a school bus, on Thursday morning.

Police say they received several complaints around 8:37 a.m. on May 6 describing a male aiming what appeared to be a firearm at passing vehicles.

Officers responded immediately, with assistance from the general investigation unit and Alberta RCMP Police Dog Services. The area was temporarily shut down as police located and arrested the suspect.

Mounties say an imitation firearm was seized.

The man was later released on conditions and is scheduled to appear in Lloydminster Provincial Court on July 6.

Charges under consideration include assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Police say the investigation is ongoing.

In a statement, RCMP thanked members of the public for reporting the incident promptly, allowing officers to respond quickly. They added there is no ongoing risk to the public.
