Cold Lake woman charged after cocaine seized during traffic stop

A 43-year-old Cold Lake woman is facing drug trafficking charges after a traffic stop near Cold Lake earlier this month.

According to RCMP, officers conducted a traffic stop on Highway 55 near Cold Lake at about 10 p.m. on May 3. During the stop, the driver was arrested for possession of a controlled substance.

Police said a search of the vehicle incident to arrest uncovered about 50 grams of suspected cocaine.

As a result of the investigation, Gwen Janvier of Cold Lake has been charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and failure to comply with release conditions related to similar offences.

Janvier was released following a judicial hearing and is scheduled to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Cold Lake on May 20.
