Chelsea Reeves, funding and event co-ordinator with the shelter, explained their recent plant fundraiser was a big hit.

“We partnered with F’Laura N’ Company Greenhouse,” she said. “She delivers the plants here. People could go onto our website and order their plants. They would grow them to that nice green they are now, then people could pick them up here at the shelter.

“It ran for about a month and we sold about 500 plants.”

She said they raised about $5,000, which helps keep the shelter going.

“If we need a special kind of dog food or cat food,” said Reeves. “If we’re in a pinch and need kitten formula, that’s a big one around this time of year.”

Another success the shelter reported was the adoption of one of its elderly residents.

“His name is Merlin, he’s about 17 years old,” she said. “He got adopted and we’re so happy for him. It’s such an important thing to try and get senior cats out of the shelter. If you want a good cuddle buddy, adopt a senior cat.”

The shelter has also partnered up with The Sticks Billiards Lounge for a fundraiser in May.

“On May 15, 16 and 17, they’re doing the Northern Lights dinner theatre murder mystery. It’s western-themed,” she said.

“If you buy a VIP ticket, you get a free round of pool with it and then a free drink voucher. The extra $10 goes directly to us. You can get them on the Sticks website or at the business.”

This weekend, they’ll also be auctioning off a table at the event.

“They’re also donating a table of 10 for us to auction off on Facebook,” said Reeves. “It’s an $800 value for the Friday show that starts at 6 p.m.”

She explained the auction will run from May 8 to 10 on their Facebook page. The cutoff for bidding is end of day on Monday.

Looking toward the end of the month, a barbecue is planned for May 28 at the shelter.

“Our sick and injured fund has had a big hit on it lately, so any funds we can get can help replenish that. That’s the goal,” she said.

Details for the barbecue will be posted to the shelter’s Facebook page when they are available.
