ATCO is set to begin construction on the Yellowhead Pipeline after receiving final approval.

ATCO Ltd. announced July 20 that its subsidiary, Canadian Utilities Limited, received final approval from the Alberta Utilities Commission for the Yellowhead Pipeline project.
The $2.9-billion project will consist of the construction and operation of a 235-kilometre, 36-inch-diameter natural gas transmission pipeline from the Peers area to Fort Saskatchewan, along with one compressor station.
“The Canadian Utilities team is progressing the Yellowhead Pipeline with care and at pace, demonstrating the solid project execution and bold, long-term infrastructure investment required to support Alberta’s continued growth and strengthen Canada’s economic future,” said Nancy Southern, ATCO chair and chief executive officer.
According to ATCO, the project is expected to create 2,000 direct construction jobs, an additional 12,000 spin-off construction jobs, and 20,000 permanent jobs annually once associated downstream investments are operational.
ATCO says that once operational, downstream investments driven by the Yellowhead Pipeline are estimated to contribute almost $4 billion annually to Alberta’s GDP.
The pipeline is expected to deliver more than 1 billion cubic feet of natural gas per day.
