Onion Lake Cree Nation (OLCN) hosted the Canadian Professional Chuckwagon Association (CPCA) finals last weekend and I can’t stop talking about it.

I hadn’t been to OLCN for a while, but I went up for Championship Sunday race coverage. Having covered chuckwagon races in Lloydminster for years, I forgot how beautiful Onion Lake’s facility is. The bucking chutes are built into the wagon track infield like they are in Calgary and the covered grandstands provide an ideal view from any seat.
Watching Colby Stanley win Sunday’s dash in front of a hometown crowd made the experience that much more special. They really love him up there!
If a CPCA final at OLCN becomes the new norm, I say great. Everyone was very welcoming and in great spirits. Feedback from drivers on the location change has been stellar and the crowd seemed to be having a great time.
See you all at the 2027 CPCA finals, wherever they end up.
