Two people face drug trafficking and weapons charges following a late-night traffic stop on Onion Lake Cree Nation earlier this month.

Onion Lake RCMP say officers were patrolling the community at about 1:45 a.m. on Aug. 17 when they pulled over a vehicle on Chief Taylor Road. During the stop, police determined one occupant was violating court-ordered conditions, including a curfew and alcohol restrictions.
After spotting open alcohol inside the vehicle, officers searched the car and seized approximately 89 grams of methamphetamine, 45 grams of cocaine, 11 pharmaceutical-style narcotic tablets, drug trafficking paraphernalia, cash and a machete.
Aaron Chief, 44, and Raven Heathen, 35, both of the Onion Lake area, are each charged with four counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking and one count of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
Chief faces an additional charge of failing to comply with a release order condition.
Both individuals have been remanded into custody. Heathen is scheduled to appear in Lloydminster Provincial Court on Aug. 26, while Chief is set to appear on Sept. 2.
