A routine traffic stop for a broken headlight ended with drug trafficking charges and a ban from Enoch Cree Nation for an Edmonton man late last month.

Enoch RCMP pulled over a vehicle with a burnt-out headlight on Enoch Cree Nation lands at approximately 5:14 p.m. on Aug. 30.
Police identified the sole occupant of the vehicle as a 52-year-old Edmonton resident who is not a member of the First Nation.
A subsequent search of the vehicle yielded roughly nine grams of suspected cocaine, four grams of suspected crystal methamphetamine, small distribution bags, two scales and additional drug trafficking paraphernalia.
The man was charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking. He is scheduled to appear in court in St. Albert on Dec. 23.
Enoch Peace Officers also issued the man a $1,000 fine for trespassing and banned him indefinitely from Enoch Cree Nation lands. Authorities warned that any unauthorized return to the territory will lead to increased fines.
“This enforcement action highlights the continued efforts of Enoch RCMP and Enoch Peace Officers to proactively address criminal activity and help keep Enoch Cree Nation safe,” said Sgt. Warren Munro of the Enoch RCMP.
