RCMP arrest woman wanted for North Battleford assault

A woman wanted in connection with a violent January assault and forcible confinement in North Battleford is now in custody.

The Saskatchewan RCMP’s warrant enforcement and suppression team arrested 21-year-old Mia Starchief on April 13 on the Saulteaux First Nation.

Starchief, a resident of Mosquito, Grizzly Bear’s Head, Lean Man First Nation, had been the subject of an active arrest warrant for more than two months.

The charges stem from an incident on the evening of Jan. 31. Battlefords RCMP were called to the downtown area around 8:30 p.m. after receiving reports of two injured people.

Officers located an adult male and an adult female, both of whom were transported to hospital by EMS with non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators determined the victims were injured and forcibly confined following an altercation involving a group of individuals at a residence on 100 St. Both victims eventually managed to escape.

Starchief faces several charges, including:

  • Forcible confinement
  • Assault with a weapon
  • Breaking and entering and committing
  • Robbery
  • Failure to comply with a release order condition

Police previously arrested 26-year-old Conner Dreaver of North Battleford on Feb. 1 in relation to the same investigation. Dreaver faces identical charges of forcible confinement, assault with a weapon, robbery, and break and enter.

Starchief made her first appearance in North Battleford Provincial Court on April 14.
