Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT) announced Tuesday, April 21, that its Lloydminster organized crime team, supported by the Lloydminster RCMP, conducted a high-value drug seizure following a traffic stop just outside city limits on April 16.
Police seized a haul with an estimated street value of $155,000, including more than half a kilogram of fentanyl.
“Given the recent fentanyl overdoses experienced in Lloydminster, this is a large amount of fentanyl to remove from circulation and hopefully break some of the addiction cycle,” said Insp. Brad Lundeen of ALERT in a news release.
The search of the vehicle yielded:
- 1,000 grams of methamphetamine;
- 527 grams of fentanyl;
- 503 grams of cocaine; and
- Five litres of GHB.
One person was arrested during the operation, though ALERT officials noted that formal charges have yet to be laid as the investigation remains ongoing.
Insp. Brian Nicholl of the Lloydminster RCMP said the seizure highlights the “strength of what is achievable” when provincial and local law enforcement agencies collaborate on community safety.
ALERT, a provincial agency funded by the Alberta government, is tasked with tackling serious and organized crime across the province.
Police are urging anyone with information regarding drug or gang activity to contact their local detachment or submit an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers.
