The incident began April 17 at about 1:30 p.m. when Meadow Lake RCMP attempted a traffic stop on Highway 55.

The vehicle fled and was spotted again on Highway 4 and Highway 304 near Loon Lake. Police say the occupants switched drivers during the pursuit.

With assistance from Loon Lake RCMP, officers located the vehicle in Loon Lake. While three female passengers were arrested at the scene, the male driver fled on foot but was later tracked down by a police dog unit.

A search of the car turned up 10 grams of methamphetamine and trafficking paraphernalia.

John Carter, 31, of James Smith Cree Nation, and Marissa Nateweyes, 21, of Prince Albert, face several charges including flight from a peace officer, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, and possession for the purpose of trafficking.

“Officers worked collaboratively to manage a dynamic situation, assess risk in real time, and safely resolve the situation,” said Sgt. Blair de Bruin in a release.

The accused are scheduled to appear in Meadow Lake Provincial Court on June 29. Two other passengers were released without charges.
