The event, held June 6, packed the downtown core with plenty of activities for everyone.

“Over 50 street vendors and downtown businesses propped their doors open,” said Sandra Brown, recreation co-ordinator for the City of Lloydminster. “It’s divided up into different zones with activities for folks of all ages.”

The day kicked off with a pancake breakfast at the Olive Tree Community Centre and featured a Lloydminster Museum and Archives craft tent where eventgoers could take part in a community art project.

There was also a farmers market and vendor fair with a variety of products and booths.

Several fresh and exciting attractions made their debut at this year’s event.

“New this year are some carnival rides,” Brown said. “We’ll have a mechanical bull and the euro bungee, and the block party trailer will be set up with different activities.”

Live entertainment was set up near the clock tower.

“Can’t have a Streetfest without some live entertainment,” she said. “We have a busk stop at the clock tower. So live music, some groups will be dancing, costume stilt-walkers will be out and about, and they’re offering a new step-up challenge.”

The step-up challenge gave people the opportunity to hop on some beginner stilts and take them for a spin.

The city was also working around ongoing construction in the area.

“We’re working around the 50th St. scheduled street construction, so we have a more condensed site this year,” Brown said.

Streetfest has a major impact on downtown businesses.

“Many of the businesses do an amazing amount of sales during Streetfest,” she said. “It is a huge benefit during the event and also provides good exposure. If folks don’t necessarily go into the storefronts today or tomorrow during the event, they’ll go back within the next few weeks to visit the stores and see what they have.”
